Batman the Robin Redbreast
Thread painting, silk shading embroidery
While having lunch in the garden at Hampton Court Palace, this robin perched on a bench next to me, and I started taking photos while moving my phone closer and closer. I have a sequence of him fluffing up his feathers more and more in annoyance! This is reflected in the image, and even slightly exaggerated by the embroidery.
The work is achieved in long & short stitch, but lengths vary to reflect the changing textures. The wings have longer stitches, feathers on his head are created by shorter stitches, feather shapes have fanned-out stitches.
